F4 Wiki Contributor Guide

Purpose

The F4 Wiki exists to document GD&T standards and how F4 interprets and validates them. Contributions are welcome and reviewed before they become public.

Who can contribute

  • Guests: read-only.
  • New users: can propose edits and new pages; all submissions require approval.
  • Verified contributors: can propose edits and new pages; their submissions receive priority in the review queue.
  • Moderators: full permissions (approve/publish, manage users, handle abuse).

How to contribute

  • Edit existing pages using VisualEditor or wikitext.
  • Create new pages in the correct namespace:
    • `GDT:` for standards reference content.
    • `F4:` for product-specific interpretation and validation behavior.
  • Use templates for consistency:
    • `Template:GDT Infobox`
    • `Template:GDT Example`
    • `Template:F4 Behavior`
  • Add the appropriate categories so pages appear in navigation.
  • Cross-link related pages (example: `GDT:Position` links to `F4:Position Validation`).

Review workflow

  • All edits and new pages require approval.
  • The approved revision is the version shown to the public by default.
  • Reviewers prioritize verified contributors, then review all remaining submissions in order received.

Content standards

  • Keep a neutral, instructional tone.
  • Separate standards reference from F4-specific behavior.
  • Include examples and common mistakes where helpful.
  • Only upload images or content you own or have permission to use.

Attribution

  • Page history shows all revisions and contributors.
  • Initial authorship should be credited on the page (infobox or footer).

Abuse and escalation

  • Spam and abuse are removed.
  • Escalation and enforcement are handled by F4 staff using standard procedures.
